Maths

In Maths, we will be covering a range of topics this term. Children will be given opportunities to learn and apply skills in the following areas:

Geography –  Rivers and Water Cycle

Physical geography, including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes, and the water cycle.

Human geography, including: types of settlement and land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources including energy, food, minerals and water.

Spring Term

Science

Electricity

Pupils will learn about sources of electricity and how to construct circuits with a range of components.

States of matter

Children will learn about different materials and carry out investigations to explore how they change states.

Design Technology

Children will create a light using a range of materials they have chosen to create the frame for a light. They will then go on to use their knowledge of circuits to construct a working circuit with the frame to make a working light.

 Art

Children will look at the work of Andre Durain and go on to create their own artwork in his style.

English

We will be using ideas from different texts and media to write a range of text types and learn and practise relevant grammar skills.

We will be writing the following text types:

  • Explanation texts.
  • Information texts.
  • Poems
  • Descriptions.
  • Stories.
  • Diaries.
  • Newspaper reports.

ICT:

We are Meteorologists.

This unit brings together data measurement, analysis and presentation, as the children take on the role of meteorologists and weather presenters

PE:

Summer 1:

R.E:

Children will learn about the core principles of Sikhism and compare them to beliefs across other religions.

Sound

Pupils will be taught to:

  • identify how sounds are made, associating some of them with something vibrating §

 recognise that vibrations from sounds travel through a medium to the ear

Art & Design Technology

Children will create a Viking Runes neck lace, using clay.

They will use sketch books to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas

They will be working on improving their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials

PSHE

Children will work on British Values and Citizenship.

They will work in group to discuss and explore ideas around these themes.

Varjak Paw’

We will be reading ‘Varjak Paw’ as a class and using ideas from the book to write a range of text types and learn and practise relevant grammar skills.

We will be writing the following text types:

  • Information texts.
  • Poems
  • Descriptions.
  • Persuasive texts.
  • Persuasive letters.
  • Stories.
  • Diaries.
  • Newspaper reports.

We will also be working on our reading skills using this text for our class comprehensions.

We are game developers

The pupils will plan their own simple computer game.

They will design characters and backgrounds, and create

a working prototype, which they develop further

based on feedback they receive.
